Joseph frowned. "What are you talking about?"
Chloe spotted Jasper studying them curiously and decided against saying hateful words to Joseph. "Ask Grandpa
and you'll find out."
His frown deepened as he strode upstairs. Jasper wanted to follow his father but Chloe stopped him. "Are Oreo
and Toto around? I'd like to see them."
Jasper’s eyes widened in surprise. "You know Oreo and Toto?"
"Yeah, | even took care of them for a while. Well, | did stay in this house longer than you."
When she said that, she felt strange. She had sounded like Joseph for a moment there. Jasper did not notice this
small detail and hurriedly led her to the dogs. As he was walking down the stairs, he almost tripped and fell.
Chloe hurriedly held his hand. "Be careful. Walk slowly. You don't want to sprain your ankle, do you?"
Looking at her hand that was holding onto his, he blushed. ‘Ms. Chloe's hand is so warm.’

Xavia had never been intimate with him, let alone hugged him. Only in front of Joseph would she pretend to hold
his hand. Once Joseph had left, Xavia would disdainfully push him away.
Jasper looked up at Chloe's gentle and delicate face and tears welled up in his eyes. ‘It'd be great if only Ms.
Chloe was my mother! | would then be loved like all my classmates."
Toto and Oreo were averagely large dogs. They were already eight years old and were considered rather old.
Luckily, the Whitmans were rich, and both dogs were well taken care of. They were fine but not as energetic as
before.
They did not recognize Chloe when they saw her, but when she got nearer, they detected her familiar scent.
They wagged their furry tails excitedly and whimpered as if complaining why she had not cto see them in
such a long time. Chloe was touched that they still remembered her.
After playing with the dogs for a while, Joseph cout of the room and stood on the balcony. With a cigarette
hanging between his lips, his expression was unreadable as he gazed into the distance. Although he remained
silent, one could feel the gloominess and oppression coming off of him.
A sense of helplessness engulfed Jasper. "Daddy’s in a bad mood..."
Chloe patted his shoulders. "It's okay. They're not on good terms with each other, so they might've argued a
little. Go and do your homework."
"Okay, Ms. Chloe, but please helpmediate the situation."
"1 will."
Chloe walked to the balcony and asked in a low voice, "Did Grandpa tell you everything? What's your plan?"
"I've arranged for a paternity test. They'll be coming by later to take the blood sample. I'll get the results
tomorrow." Joseph took a drag, and the white smoke concealed his face.
Chloe's heart skipped a beat. "Will you continue to raise Jasper if he isn’t your child?"
"I don't know."
"I'll take care of him if you don't want to!" Chloe uncharacteristically said without any hesitation.
Joseph looked at her in confusion before touching her forehead. "Are you having a fever?"
She wanted to raise Xavia’s child? Was that not being too kind?
"I'm serious here! Jasper is a good child. He shouldn't be burdened with his parents' grudges."

Chloe did not know what was wrong with her either. She just simply could not stand to see Jasper suffer. It all
cdown to what her heart told her to do.
Joseph stared at her for a long while before saying forlornly, "I won't abandon Jasper. Doing the paternity test is
just so that I have conclusive results."
He was at a loss. How would he face Jasper from now on?
"As long as you don't give him up. Did Grandpa tell you who hurt him?”
"No."
"No? You didn’t ask or he didn't say?"
"He didn't say. He toldto handle Jasper first because of sother things we discussed."
Chloe was baffled. She could not understand the link between those two affairs. Just then, her phone rang. It was
a call from Noah. She had not told him that she was at the Whitman family home. After glancing at Joseph, she
decided to head to a corner and answer the phone.
"What's wrong? Don't dare to pick up your fiance's call in front of me?" Joseph mocked. He had seen the caller
ID.
